Hi, am not dead

I’ve just been really busy. Two weekends ago, Bud and his fiancée came down. When asked what he wanted to do, the answer was, “We want to see battlefields.” (This would be Bud, who just got back from Iraq.)

I had already planned for Friday night- we went on a ghost tour and had dinner at the Capital Ale House . (Bud’s a beer guy; he brews his own.) The last time I did the ghost tour, it was quieter. It was October, so no open car windows and such. Still a good time.

Saturday, battlefields! We started out at the visitor center for Richmond National Battlefield, aka the Tredegar Iron Works. We took a tour there. Others on the tour included a woman wearing a knit jumpsuit, another woman who answered her cell phone in the middle of the tour, and a guy who kept asking questions that had nothing to do with the tour. Like, hey, I have a question. About the river. Well, it’s totally related, because the river is just over there. Also, we made fun of him for the rest of the weekend by asking each other random questions. (We shan’t talk about the other thing we laughed about all weekend.) We then went out to Gaines’s Mill, where they had reenactors, for it was the anniversary of the battle. One of the regiments was a Zouave unit. They were cool, even with the silly pants.

That night I went to the best, most awesome, most fun wedding ever. Seriously. Wish all weddings were like that.

Sunday was the Crater. Bud’s comment? “I thought it would be bigger.” The temptation to bust out with, “That’s what she said!” was very strong, but I fought it successfully. Well, until now.

Last weekend was also a busy one. Canada Day party on Thursday (y’all know Apple is Canadian, right?). Friday, Apple, Flanders, PB and I hit the golf course for the first round that Apple and I have ever played. It went OK. Except at the end, when we found out people we calling and complaining about how slow we were. Which embarrassed me, but also made me angry, because, hey, how nice to have come out of the womb being able to golf. We hung out at Apple’s pool that afternoon and then hit Nacho Mama’s for dinner and margaritas as big as your head. We were able to sit outside on the deck.

Saturday hung with Apple and MJ and watched fireworks from near Apple’s house.

Sunday, PB and I went and saw Transformers. I enjoyed it, but it is every bit as bad as they say it is. Then we hung out at his house watching Deadliest Catch. There was a marathon! We couldn’t not watch it.

And now there is work, with its composting craziness.

And Janet will never invite me to her house again. The end.

So, last weekend I headed up to Boston. I’d not been there for a few years and it’s my favorite city in the U.S., so I decided I wanted to go this year. I planned my trip to coincide with Sail Boston, because hello? Ships? I’m so there.

I left Friday morning, and after some crazy airport scrambling arrived at Logan around 4:30. Since I would never ask anyone to drive into and then out of Logan at that time, I took the T out to Davis Square to meet the lovely Janet , hostess with the mostest. Megan came with. I sat in Davis Square waiting for them to arrive, enjoying the cacophony of car horns. See, in the South? We don’t use the horn much. In MA? It’s clearly wrong not to. I was also enjoying the lack of humidity. And the conversations I overheard. Such as the guy behind me telling his friend, completely matter-of-factly, “You know I cheated when I was married, right?” Yea, that’s not a big deal. Then Janet and Megan came (no, really, it was right after that remark), we put my suitcase in her car and got back on the T to go to Harvard Square.

So that I could go to Lush. We also went to dinner (Hello yummy!) and poked around the non-clothing section of Urban Outfitters.

Saturday was Tall Ships! We hit the World Trade Center piers first and then went to the Charlestown Navy Yard. Yes, the ships were placed that far apart. Ships = awesome. And also tall. On our way to Charlestown, I was taking some water from Janet’s Sigg bottle when I dropped the cap. Which proceeded to roll onto the tracks. (Note: brief fleeting though of jumping onto the tracks to retrieve it.)

Am awesome.

After our big day touring boats, we headed back to Janet’s where she had a lovely dinner party. Well, we stopped at the grocery store first, and I wandered around looking for beer. Which they do not sell in grocery stores in Massachusetts.

Anyway, dinner party. Megan, Michelle and Lisa came. We had lasagna and this crazy angel food cake which is made by taking an angel food cake mix and adding a can of crushed pineapple. Is delicious. We then played Apples to Apples and I spilled red wine on Janet’s rug.

See? Awesome.

(This was my first blogger meetup- I've considered them friends for years (with the exception of Lisa, but that's because, hey, didn't know about her until Saturday) but we haven't met in person. I'm glad they they are all actual real-life friends now, and I want to thank Janet for being so welcoming.)

So, I’m having some travel difficulties lately

Hey? Guess what? I’m going to Austin tomorrow today.

Yes, I realized at 4PM that I was supposed to be on a flight at 6:15 PM. I thought my trip was Tuesday-Thursday. Turns out is actually Monday-Wednesday.

At 4PM was still at work.

By 4:35 PM was packed and on my way to the airport. Only to get there and find out that our flight had been delayed for 2 (currently 3) hours.

(If this is not in fact evidence that I am perhaps a bit stressed, I’m not sure what is.)
