The weekend

Friday I went out with the AA at work to celebrate her birthday. We went and did some beer tasting where it was confirmed that I don't like bitter beers.

Saturday AM I headed out, split some wood for people who can't afford to heat their houses, and then came home and cleaned. I then went to a party briefly and then out to dinner and a movie with a friend. We saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno. If you like Kevin Smith movies you will like it. If you don't, you will find it vile and disgusting. I like it and found it very funny, but must say that I have never before been attracted to Jason Mewes. I am disturbed that I am now.

Today I didn't do much of anything. I slept on the couch last night and woke up at 11. And then spent most of the rest of the day dozing. Seriously, my main accomplishment for the day is, "I drank some wine."

I got a message from someone I went to high school with on Facebook. It said, "I'm married to (some guy I don't know) and we now have 8 children." The only response I have been able to formulate is "Better you than me!" because, holy crap!

An indication that I'm tired

I just spent five minutes chasing a cat around the kitchen, trying to catch him to give him his pill.

The problem? I was chasing the wrong cat. Orion gets the pils, not Jasper.

Which apparently he knew.

There's not even anyone to shush

Last night, I had a dream about work. I was marking up a map to show to a client, and I was supposed to mark a copy, not my original.

I woke myself up when I said, aloud, "Oh no! I wrote on my map!"

Because if it wasn't, I have things to explain to them

This weekend I received possibly the best text message ever.

"Dont eat the white dip"

See, I went to a wine tasting competion at a friend's house. The white dip had crab in it. Unfortunately, I didn't get the text before I got there. I asked about the white dip and was told, "DON'T EAT IT!" This confused the other person who was there (we were on time; the rest of the partygoers were not) because she could not understand why one would put food out and then not let people eat it.

Someone brought peach Wild Vines to the party. I think it was a joke. I hope it was a joke.

Follow-up

Today is my first follow up visit with my new psychiatrist. I am feeling much better- I’m back to where I should be. To me, this reinforces that what I have is a chemical imbalance. I’m still going to talk to her about some therapy, because I feel like right now there are a few things I need to talk through. Overall though, I am content. Thanks to everyone who left comments and/or checked up on me. This is a journey and I took a wrong turn, but I’m back on the right path now.

Not that this is a political blog

Or that I'm even anyone who should be writing about politics. (Disclaimer: My political views are probably best described as liberterian.)

Today is an historic inauguration. Well, I suppose they are all historic, but to me this election has shown how far the country has come. Don't get me wrong, we still have a long way to go with regards to racial and gender equality, but we have made great strides in the last 40 years.

I'm excited that Obama will be our President; I know there are many people that feel he's going to screw up the country, but in my opinion the Bush administration accomplished that very well.

I am also concerned. There seems to be this pervasive optimisim that everything will be fixed right away. It won't; it will take time. Obama will screw up and, if he's like most politicians, he will defer blame. He'll do things I don't agree with. I expect this, and I'm OK with it.

Quite frankly, I would have voted for McCain if he had been the McCain of 2000. (And had also not chosen Palin as his running mate, but that's a whole other story.) I would have voted for the McCain who gave his concession speech. I could not vote for the McCain who ran the campaign he did, the McCain that wouldn't admit that the outgoing administration had made serious mistakes. The McCain who took too long to admit that there is an economic crisis in this country.

I think Obama will be a good president because I think he's picked a strong group of advisors and I believe he'll listen to them. I also think he can't live up to the hype surrounding him. I don't think anyone could.

(I welcome differing opinions, as long as they are respectful- feel free to post those. "Obama supporters are stupid and don't know what they are doing," is neither a respectful nor constructive statement. Also, I've already heard it.)

Normally I am not a fangirl

But in this case, I will make an exception. As y'all know, the past few months have been rough. My friends have been (mostly) great about helping me through it. This weekend, my friend Reen told me that something she'd gotten for me had come in the mail. We went to her place in between volleyball and dodgeball last night, and she presented me with

a signed picture of Matthew Rhys!

Backstory: A few months ago she mentioned that via Facebook she'd gotten back in touch with someone she went to school (camp?) with and that he lived in LA and worked on Brothers and Sisters. She'd never seen it. I told her how much I loved it and how Matthew Rhys was one of my five. Knowing I was feeling low, she asked her friend to get me his autograph. Not only did he do that, but he made Rhys sign the picture a few times because he kept spelling my name wrong.

I have good friends.

And this is why we get along

Conversation with our Administrative Assistant:

WG: I'm taking a long lunch. I've got a therapy appointment and then I have to run home because I forgot to take my crazy pills this morning.
AA: Don't say that! pause They are anti-crazy pills.
