The effects of no coffee

This week, I am having trouble setting up the coffee. Well, actually it goes back to Friday. Friday (well, actually Thursday night) I forgot to put a key ingredient in the coffeepot. Water. Forgot the water. Sunday I set up the coffee before Cdub and I went to see Delirium. But, I forgot to set it to “auto” so no coffee Monday morning. Today, I did all that, except I forgot to check when the timer was set for, so coffee was brewed. At midnight.
Anyway, the point is that for the last 3 business days, I have had no coffee until after arriving at work. Which leads to things like this:

Watergirl: I just lost my keys.
British Co-worker: That’s not good.
British Co-worker: Wait, just lost them as in 30 seconds ago when you came through the door you had them and now you don’t?
Watergirl: That would be correct.

Update

I was successful with the coffe and had some this morning. However, I walked upstairs with my car keys and not my office keys, so it seems to have not helped.

In other news, I will be joining Weight Watchers next week. A co-worker and I are doing it together- we can go to meetings during lunch.

Grrr!

Did you ever find yourself in a situation where an incident has upset you or made you angry, and you just can't let go of that anger? It's just simmering, there all the time? So that just reading some words or a name actually makes your shoulders tense up? And you want to kick someone?

Yea, me neither.

Wacky Weather

These pictures were taken at 8:30 this morning. Remember, I live in North Carolina. Also, it's April.

Hear the tale of the weekend!

Huzzah! Friday night I went to the Ren Faire with Little Matty. He wanted to see Albannach. First there was drinking of mead, then an “Acrobatic Equestrian Show”. Two of the performers got into an argument (the one flipping from the Belgian and landing on a pony didn’t like how the Belgian was being lead. The guy leading the Belgian stormed off.). It was awesome! The band was great, but we didn’t stay for the entire show, as it was cold.

Saturday I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned because my parents, Goose, and his girlfriend were staying at my house on the way to Florida. Sunday I made breakfast, saw them off, and then did my taxes.

Oh, and my dad offered me a week at a timeshare, so now I am planning a vacation. First step: figuring out where to go.

Adventures with the boys

Yesterday I took both boys to the vet- Jasper needed his shot and Orion was having anal glad issues. Or, as the woman with the Great Dane puppy put it, “problems at both ends!” Jasper goes to the vet often enough that he’s pretty good about getting in his carrier. He’s not happy about it, but he doesn’t fight. Orion, on the other hand, fights so hard that you’d think he matches the Great Dane puppy in size. I also bought flea and tick meds, which, well, “DO NOT LIKE!”

But I do not like fleas in the house, so…

Some General Rules of Conduct
  1. If you are going to send out mass requests for moving help (and include me), you should probably have helped at least one of our mutual friends move in the time I’ve known you.
  2. Also, you shouldn’t change the date repeatedly because “the date isn’t good for most people.” Perhaps they just don’t want to help you. (If you are always a taker and never a giver, well, people will be disinclined to help you.)
  3. And really, you shouldn’t change one of those dates into a painting party. Especially if you are going to ask people to help you paint and, oh, by the way, please provide your own equipment.
  4. However, I am allowed to laugh because you are offering people alcohol if they come help you paint. That should work out quite well.

Vacation, all I ever wanted

When my parents were down for Easter (I was a stop on their trip to FL), my dad told me he had three weeks of timeshares that had to be used before October and asked me if I wanted one. I thought about it for roughly a nanosecond before saying yes.

I called Angeler, my favorite traveling companion, to see where we should go. Our first choice was San Francisco, but nothing was available. So, we will be going to Hilton Head. Beach! Golfing! Savannah, GA less than an hour away! Oh, and I don’t even need a plane ticket.

I can’t wait for September.

Interview with a blog-friend

Interview questions, courtesy of the smart, funny, beautiful Michelle:

  1. If you could have any job in the world what would it be and why? I would really love to teach math at the community college level. I love algebra and calculus. Yes, I am weird. However, I do have a plan for opening my own plumbing business.

  2. If your house were on fire and you could only take three things with you - you have to be able to carry them all - what would they be and why? (Pets are safe already). Hmm.
    • My painting over the fireplace- I bought it at an auction a few years ago. It’s by a local artist, I bought it because it spoke to me.
    • My striped afghan. My uncle’s mother knitted 4 afghans for me. I’ve had them for years now. I’d miss them, but the striped one is my favorite.
    • My purse. Can’t not have that.

  3. What prompted you to start a blog, how long have you been blogging and what has made you stay with it? I started a blog as a means of keeping in touch with people. I’ve been doing it for about 3 years now. I stay with it mostly because I’ve made several friends through blogging. Someday I hope to meet the NE crew. For right now, I just know Stewie in real life.

  4. You have a horse and cats - you have to give one or the other up - which goes and which stays? Well, actually, I don’t have a horse. But even if I did, it’s likely the horse would go. The cats are there every day, and I know that I can ride someone else’s horse. Plus, I can sell a horse. No one would pay for my cats.

  5. Best book you have ever read? This is a tough question. I love books! I’m going to say Trustee from the Toolroom by Nevil Shute. It’s the first Shute book I’d ever read. It’s a book where everything happens for a reason, and everything works out. Reminds me to take things as they come.

So if you want to play along and now be interviewed by me, please leave me a comment or send an email saying: "Interview me."
    * I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
    * You will update your weblog with the answers to the questions.
    * You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
    * Then others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions and so on.

Proof that it at least caught my attention

The ice cream truck came down my street before. Playing "Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Really now, what says "ice cream" more than that?

Notes from the Airport

Ticketing counter,RDU. 6 open self-service kiosks; three people in line in front of me. To the woman before me, “Is there a reason no one is using those?” “Um, yeah, there’s no one there to check you in.” “OK, but they are self-service kiosks.” I pass them.

Ticketing agent , putting the baggage claim ticket on my bag,: “You’re going to Spokane?” “No, I’m going to Columbus, GA.” “I try to guess what the airport designation is. I’m always wrong.” (Note: Spokane is GEG. Columbus, GA is CSG.)

Atlanta, connection delayed 5 times. I stop watching passengers and pick up my book. I look up, a glance. I see him from the back; I never see his face. It is familiar, a reminder of the past, a jump in my chest. Most likely not him, but what if it was?

3 hours after scheduled departure we take off. Rental car clerk can't find mileage for car. Nor can she find gas. "Just bring it back as close as you can to what it was."

Hotel: Gladly paid $4.25 for a Miller Lite.

Like person, like cat?

Orion has an issue, known in veterinary parlance as "inappropriate elimination." Right now, the favored target of such elimination is the couch. The new couch. Which I just had cleaned.

I took him to the vet, because in the past this has been a sign of a urinary tract infection. He is fine. I've tried the pheremones- they don't work.

They are suggesting Prozac.
