Yay! Questions!
|
From Megan, the goddess of web design.
- What did you do for New Year's Eve? Hung out with some friends and played Cranium. Best off the wall guess of the night (the person was doing a charade of "bike messenger"): "You're a chimpanzee. Riding a unicorn!"
- Did you make any resolutions? Nah, I always make the same ones and then never keep them.
- If you had to change your domain name, what would you change it to? Well, Janet actually came up with it, but I kind of like "Heathen Asshole." I mean, even though I don't really think I'm either.
- What was one thing on your wishlist that you didn't get for Christmas but you wish you had? Return of the King on DVD.
- If you could be granted just one non monetary wish (for yourself; so world peace doesn't count) what would it be? [Thanks Michelle!] New job! I want a new job!
- Full day at a spa (manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, hair cut and color, waxing etc.) or $750 cash. Which do you take? [Thanks Michelle!] The cash. No question.
- What's your creative outlet? [Thanks Heather!] You're reading it. Seriously. I'm not a very creative person. I do daydream a lot.
- What was the last thing you dreamed? [Thanks Krista!] I can't remember anything specific, but lately I've been dreaming I'm in Thailand.
- What was the last nice thing someone did for you. [Thanks Krista!] A friend just bought me lunch.
- What are your plans for the weekend? Tonight I'm
putting taking the Christmas decorations up down. Tomorrow, a hike with the WW and then a dinner/movie date. Sunday, I will probably go into work.

It's frustration, that's why
|
So, I emailed Megan today about last night's Gilmore Girls, and she was all, "Hey! Haven't heard from you in a while! Hope everything is OK." OK is how I would describe everything. Nothing good, nothing bad. I am still looking for a job, and getting more and more frustrated every day. (Patience is a virtue, but not one of mine.) I have also been sick, and then when I wasn't sick I was tired. And I figured y'all didn't want to read a grump entry.
I was right about that, no?
|
|
It's Friday. That means questions.
|
From the lovely Megan, posted at the ridiculously early hour of 0518.
- Do you lie about your age? Why? [Thanks ME!] No. Getting older beats the alternative.
- How many resolutions have you broken so far? [Thanks ME!] I didn't make any this year, so none!
- What's your best attitude adjuster? [Thanks ME!] Snuzzles from Ri.
- Do you have any vacation plans this year? Where are you going? [Thanks Sky!] Well, I am definitely going to Boston sometime this spring, and I'd like to go to Ireland.
- I'm looking to buy a new purse...what would you recommend to me? [Thanks Janet!] Still this one. I want this one in black.
- nail polish or au natural? do it yourself or manicures? [Thanks Liz!] I work in a lab. Therefore it is au natural, and do-it yourself manicures. The toes are another story.
- what was the last thing you searched for on the computer? [Thanks !] The Carolina Hurricanes schedule.
- whats your fav go to recipe, ya know the kind thats good and tasty everytime? [Thanks Liz!] Rosemary Chicken. Yummy!
- tea or coffee, and how do you like it? [Thanks Liz!] Both. Coffee- light with splenda. Tea with splenda.
- some people always feel cold in bed and others are always hot...which are you? do you sleep with lots of covers, or just one? [Thanks Liz!] I am usually comfortable. I sleep with a duvet and a blanket, but take the blanket off in summer.
- What are your plans for the weekend? Tonight, cleaning, laundry, Battlestar Galactica. Tomorrow I have a Jaycee thing for the project I'm chairing, and the guy I'm dating is coming up for dinner- the aforementioned Rosemary Chicken. Which I am making with roasted herb potatoes, and I still need a vegetable, so suggestions are welcomed.

The weekend
|
Friday, I left work early (had my time in). I went to Borders to use the gift card I'd gotten for Christmas. Bought Memoirs of a Geisha. It's good- I can hardly put it down. Then I came home, did some cleaning, and watched Battlestar Galactica.
Saturday I met up with a couple of my Jaycee friends to start my CPG. I am the project chair for Adopt-a-Highway this year. Biggest challenge? Convincing people to come pick up trash along the side of the road with me.
That was after I had put the chicken in the fridge to marinate. D came up for dinner (was yummy. Vegetable was asparagus, in case you were wondering.) He had brought a movie with him (K-19). He put it on top of the DVD player. While we were eating dinner, Orion knocked it across the living room. D: : I guess he doesn't want to watch that tonight." Y'all know I don't date guys who don't like the cats, right?
Sunday, 2.0 called. We went for a walk in the brisk air. Then the boys and I hung out on the couch, watching History Channel, reading, and napping. It was a lovely way to spend a Sunday.
In other news, I went to the gym today. Finally. I joined last year. (The last week of last year, but still...)

Still frustrated
|
So, two companies (including another office of my current company) have told me they won't hire me because I don't have enough design experience. But that's why I am looking for another job. To get design experience.

This amuses me.
|
Maybe not you, but me.
Found at monique's.
- A watergirlometer is used to measure watergirl.
- It takes forty minutes to hard-boil watergirl!
- Ninety-six percent of all candles sold are purchased by watergirl!
- Bees visit over three million flowers to make a single kilogram of watergirl!
- Half a cup of watergirl contains only seventeen calories!
- Watergirl is the last letter of the Greek alphabet!
- Watergirl will often glow under UV light.
- It can take watergirl several days to move just through one tree.
- The air around watergirl is superheated to about five times the temperature of the sun.
- Only one person in two billion will live to be watergirl.
Addendum to number 3: Those candles are not lit by watergirl, as watergirl's cat has been known to set himself aflame.

Friday Questions
|
Thanks, Megan!
- If you have a full-time salary paid job and are expected to work at least 40 hours each week, how many hours do you really work.. more or less? [Thanks Jimbo!] I probably work a little over 40 hours a week- I check e-mail from home, and my mind works on problems/issues practically constanly, so I ocassionally send out e-mails at 10PM.
- Which way does your toilet paper roll? Forward or backward? [Thanks MB!] Backward, so that the sheets come from under the roll. Unless I put it on the other way, in which case I don't change it.
- What's your favorite candy? pick only one. [Thanks Liz!] Chocolate Truffles.
- What book are you reading right now? [Thanks Liz!] See the sidebar.
- Are you jealous of anyone? [Thanks Liz!] I'm a little jealous of 2.0- she has a great husband, a cute baby, a lovely house, and is just so confident!
- Laundry...do you sort it into colors and groups or just throw whatever in? [Thanks Liz!] I sort. (Like y'all didn't figure that one out.)
- What smelly candle is your favorite? Do you have one that you just don't like one bit? [Thanks Liz!] I don't really have a favorite, as I can't light candles in my house.
- What is your best feature? [Thanks Liz!] My hair. Or maybe my eyes. But I'm vain about my hair.
- What are your plans for the weekend? Tonight, cleaning, Battlestar Galactica. Tomorrow, I will either go to the gym or for a walk, then I have some shopping, and D and I are doing dinner and a movie. Sunday, Cdub and I (and a co-worker of hers) are window shopping at the new outdoor mall.

Justice, NC-style
|
In North Carolina, if you kill a 92-year old retired preacher, we will put you to death 21 years later. If you shake your infant son so hard that cause his eventual death, we will fine you $1,000 dollars and put you on probation for 2 years.
It should be noted that Perrie Simpson did take responsibility for and express remorse for his actions, a crime that he committed at 21 years old. The crime was brutal, and Simpson should have been punished. However, executing the 42-year-old is not the same as executing the 21-year-old.
Jessie Ullom has never admitted in court that he shook his son. He was convicted of child abuse in March 2004, after the incident. After Christian died, in December of 2004, he was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He pleaded "no contest" both times. Had he plead guilty, he would have at least, in some way, admitted guilt. At his sentencing, the judge said that because of his time served in Iraq (served after the Army should have discharged him because of the child abuse conviction), he could be considered "an authentic American hero." The fact that he's both a baby-killer and a statutory rapist (Christian's mother was 15 when he was conceived.) should really mean that he can't.

The weekend
|
Friday I cleaned and watched Battlestar Galactica. I love that show so much.
Saturday, I woke up late (for me) at about 8:45. The boys and I stayed in bed until 10 AM reading Memoirs of a Geisha. (Well, they were in bed, but not reading. They almost never read. Are lazy. Prefer TV.) I got up, made coffee, read the paper, and got ready to run some errands. I needed new sneakers for the gym, and had $30 worth of coupons at DSW. I ended up getting a brand new pair of Sauconys for $10.50. I ran into Old Navy and bought a pair of pants, which turned out to be on sale.
While I was getting ready to leave, 2.0 called.
2.0: What are you doing?
WG: Getting ready to go to DSW.
2.0: Oh, I was calling to see if you wanted to go to SRI with me.
WG: Well, I have to be home by 4.
2.0: OK. I have a raquetball date with CP. Will call after.
So, I went home, vacuumed, and she picked me up for more shoe shopping. I got a pair of brown ankle boots and an evening bag. 2.0 was jealous, because she got nothing.
Yesterday, Cdub and I went window shopping with a co-worker of hers at a new mall in town. It's a new mall, with the concept being a downtown area. I like the concept, but there are few shops there that will draw me in.
I ended the weekend by giving myself a pedicure.

Friday Questions
|
Thanks Meg!
- What is your reaction to waking up and seeing snow? [Thanks ME!]
- What's your favorite dessert to order out? to make at home? [Thanks Monique!]
- Do you usually get a big refund? If so, what do you do with it?
- How do you handle your bills? Are you really organized, really laid back or somewhat in between. Describe.
- How important is money in terms of your happiness?
- What did your parents teach you about money?
- What do you wish your parents had taught you about money?
- What are your plans for the weekend?
- bonus question. Jimbo and I want to go away for an extended weekend somewhere within driving distance and not too much money (but nice!). Where do you suggest?
- Hmm... I liked it better when I lived up in MA. Here it causes such a hassle. So I don't like to wake up and see it, unless it's a weekend.
- To order out, I would say Cheesecake. To make? Brownies.
- Not usually. I don't like the government holding my money interest-free, so I take my 1 deduction on my W-2 (W-10?). Whatever the one you fill out at work is.
- I used to be really, really organized, and now I'm a bit less so. Trying to get really, really organized again.
- I want to have enought that I don't have to worry about it, but as long as I can pay my bills and have a little extra, I'm OK.
- Not too much, really.
- Unfortunately, my dad's motto is, "If you want it, buy it." He equates things with happiness, and it was a lesson I learned. I am trying to un-learn it, and am getting much better at it.
- Tonight, Cdub and I are seeing Memoirs of a Geisha. Tomorrow, D is coming up and we are going to Charlie Goodnight's. Sunday I am going to see Chicago.
- Hmm... Portsmouth, NH? I love Portsmouth. As a bonus, it's very close to Kittery, ME. Although I also love Portland, ME.

Update (like, finally!)
|
Friday, Cdub and I went out to dinner. Panera was out of the soup I wanted, which they didn't tell me until after I had ordered. Then we say Memoirs of a Geisha. The book was much better. Don't even get me started on Hatsumomo starting a fire in the okiya.
Saturday, I had a lazy day at home. D came up, and we went to dinner at Porter's Tavern. Excellent meal with a good mojito. I'd go back. (Confidential to D: Brunch!) We then went to Charlie Goodnight's (technically we first went to Fresh Market and then to Charlie Goodnight's) to see this guy, who was wicked funny. There's also the part where I accidentally flung Chocolate Martini over my new winter white merino wool sweater from Banana Republic ($18), but it came out. We headed to the Cheescake Factory for dessert, but were told the wait was 50 minutes (at 10PM!) Me: "We can get it to go." D: "You've got forks at your house, right?"
Sunday night we went to see Chicago. Loved it! (Note: I hadn't seen the movie beforehand.) Loved it.
Last night, 2.0 and I went for a walk with the Boo. He likes strollin', that one.
P.S. I forgot to tell you about the surprise I got. Sunday, when I checked the mail, there was a package from Megan. She and Janet had gone to Lush and bought me prezzies! I had my first Lush bath last night. Excellent!
