It's almost like I'm a grown-up career-type person

So, next week I will be heading to Orlando and then Naples, Florida on a business trip.  I will be gone for three days, and the book I am currently reading (Under the Banner of Heaven by John Krakauer) will surely be finished soon.  So, dear readers, I need book suggestions.  I will read almost anything, except girly books.  Oh how I hated The Bridges of Madison County!  Y'all leave me some suggestions now.

(Confidential to jennaratrix:  What I don't get about the above book?  One of the ten commandments is "Thou shalt not kill", no?  So how do the fundamentalists get around that?)

Yep, read it, read Angels and Demons too. Thanks, though!

Hmmm, if I remember correctly, the brothers felt they were being directed by God to kill, and only God has the right to decide life and death. I think they understood that it was a contradiction, knew they would probably pay for what they had done, but were so convinced they were doing God's work that they were willing to risk it. I remember that when they were actually doing one of the deeds, the brother apologized to the victim, said he didn't understand it right now, and hoped that it would all be clear in heaven or the afterlife. This is not to say that I buy the above argument at all. I've read the book a few times, and I can never decide if they really believe what they say or if it's a crock to get off the hook for it. I think what I like best is, you can't tell what Jon Krakauer thinks about that, either. Very rarely have I read anything on a topic of this kind where the reporter is so unbiased. For other books: I'd recommend anything by Margaret Atwood; if you haven't read any of her stuff, start with the Handmaid's Tale and maybe Oryx and Crake.

Read anything by Michael Crichton? I just finished Prey, and couldn't put it down, and you know how long it takes for me to finish a book... well, this one I finished in about 3 days! Anyhow, if you can't find anything good to read, I'm sure I could loan you my Water Chem book to help with your PE studies! Just kidding of course...You're going to pass with flying colors!

The Lovely Bones? Empire Falls? Those are my two most recent reads... I can't think of anything else right now.
